Ahh, yes, the silver aluminum Christmas tree with red, green, and gold bulbs! How many of you had a tree like this in your past? I know my family did. Honestly, it was always charming! It was not green or real, but I know it lit my eyes up! It was always an exciting moment when Mom started the ritual of putting the tree together. She did not like real trees because of the pine needle clean up afterward, but it seemed like most people I knew had those aluminum trees back then.
As a child, honestly, it did not matter to me. I loved Christmas, with the shopping, the wrapping paper, tape, and ribbons. Although Christmas isn’t really about all of this, it brought family together and a lot of great memories near that old aluminum tree. Later in life Christmas shopping became a gift of love. I remember all of the gifts I bought for my kids piled in one room, mixed in with tape, wrapping paper, and bows. It took me a couple hours or so to complete it. Then there were the little voices outside my locked door, “Mom, are you done yet?” You have to love the excitement of kids, right?
Honestly, I will never be “done”. Christmas is such a special time of year filled with giving and expectation. Regardless of the traditions you might hold, I challenge you to shake things up a bit this holiday season. Do something new. Add a new tradition and join in with a lot of love, laughter and joy. I know the holiday season is not always happy for many of us. I have gone through some holiday heartache myself. We all miss our loved ones who can no longer be with us for the holidays. I know its hard, but still bring in something new this year. I will say some prayers for your heart; maybe you can do the same for me.
Let’s make this the best holiday season ever, no matter what. Let’s have smiles, joy, and renewal in our giving, and remember the reason for the season!
Love and light,
