Thanksgiving is a special way of bringing families together and creating memories that we cherish for a lifetime. The warmth of laughter echoing around the table and the delightful aroma of a hearty meal can make those moments feel magical. As time passes, reflecting on those beautiful gatherings and the joy they brought is natural. Although the days may fly by, the love and connections shared during those precious moments will always stay in our hearts. Embracing the spirit of Thanksgiving can remind us to create new memories with loved ones, even as we hold onto the fond ones from the past.
As I grew, my family expanded to new branches. Thanksgiving was the same, but new family members, including my children, were added. I loved the conversations around the table and the sound of happy eaters, and afterward, everyone was asleep, sprawled out in the living room, stuffed more than the turkey. Fond moments, for sure!
With every passing year, those memories have become more endearing to me. The love we shared with the meals we shared. Sometimes I long to be back there again, when my father carved the turkey and my mother set the table, adding delicious dishes that would be empty in no time. I think the conversations and joy were the best. There is something about sharing meals together that can be very bonding.
I have loved watching my children grow and create Thanksgiving their own way. Two of my kids are no longer with us, but I still have fond memories of when they came into their own and created their own memories. I hope wherever they are, they are enjoying a feast of joy, love, comfort, and compassion. One day, I know I will join them. I hope not too soon, but eventually, I know it is inevitable. The family memories will be left behind, and if I know myself well, I will be present during every family meal on Thanksgiving, even if they do not know I am present! To be near their joy will be my own joy!
