Choices We Make That Empower Us

I entitled this blog post the way it is because I was thinking about choices this morning. My meditative practice was harder than usual because I had so many things swirling around in my brain. As it settled, some interesting thoughts came to me. Even though I don’t believe anyone should live in the past, I do believe the past has lessons we can still learn and sometimes those lessons even define who we eventually are.

A long time ago I worked for a commercial bank called Bay Bank of Commerce in San Leandro, CA. I think the years were somewhere around 1982. I was a single mother with one small son at the time. I loved that bank. I loved the way I was treated by those who founded it and those who appreciated me as a young professional. I have to thank the CEO and founder @DickKahler for the opportunity I was given. I was only there maybe close to 2 years, and worked in the commercial real estate loan processing department. Unfortunately, one person who worked above me gave me a very difficult time during a pregnancy that was pretty delicate. After some careful consideration I had to quit my job there.

No way had that move ever reflected on the wonderful way that commercial bank was built or how business was executed. I knew I had the finest of the best in the business. Yet, I had to stand up for myself due to one person’s treatment. I was a pretty shy and very unassuming person at the time. I have to say, quitting without another job to hang onto was not an easy prospect. It really took a lot of faith. Actually, it built my faith.

I went on to build a family, was married and then divorced. For many years I raised five children on my own with no real help from anyone. After consulting with a superior court family judge, I decided to educate myself. Her advice was straight on for me. Judge Chew, wherever you are, I LOVE YOU! I started at the community college level but that was only the beginning. My education took me to places I never thought I would be.

I was accepted by a pilot program through Stanford University in California. I studied with students from various places on the globe. I did some of my trans-personal/spiritual internship at Mt Madonna, CA. I graduated with a liberal arts degree with emphasis on psychology and human behavior through Southern New Hampshire University. I have three degrees in theological study leading to a Master’s from Grand Canyon University along with 3 years of Clinical Psychology study, and a Doctorate from the University of Sedona. I am excited to have studied in classes conducted by Harvard University. I also have learned from some wonderful spiritual, philosophical teachers from Daytona Beach, Boca Raton, and Miami, Florida. Much of my study led to certifications in Life Coaching, Trans-personal Counseling, Holistic Healing, and Hypnotherapy. Yes, I have a lot of education!

I was surprisingly privileged to conduct a class, a church service, and speak before some of our country’s leaders during one of the dedication moments near Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend. I was honored to be the Pastor of two small group churches, speak in local places of worship, and now I meet the most amazing people on earth that I call “my clients.”

My major point here is that one move to step into my own personal power, along with the power of God, created who I am today. I am assertive in ways I never would have been had it not occurred. It might seem simple and small, but it created a domino affect of so much more than I could have ever dreamed of. In fact, it changed my life. Over the course of time I have made good decisions and not so good. Fact remains that one step of empowerment made all of the difference in the world.

Don’t ever underestimate your own power to make decisions that could define the rest of your life. Step into it. Yes, you might step into some thick mud but lotus flowers bloom in thick mud, and so can you!

Creating Daily Rituals

A ritual is formally defined as a spiritual or religious rite that is practiced and done regularly.  We also can create habits or actions that we do consistently and regularly, as if they are religious- like. I suppose we can say “we do them religiously.” Much of the time we describe a ritual as an act or action we do daily. This can be anywhere from our skin care to our work out routine. It’s probably a good idea to squeeze some of the spiritual ritual into our daily routine as well. A well rounded life has them all; the everyday actions that are mostly habits and the more divinely inspired moments that are more deeply rooted in who we are and our existence.

Daily rituals are needed for humans. Without them we are floating daily like a boat just drifting out to sea with no real direction. Rituals help give us direction, especially the deep spiritual ones. One of mine every morning is to grab my cup of coffee or tea and then sit back on the corner of my bed and close my eyes as I sip on my cup. This is my quiet time when I still my thinking, pray, ask for guidance, and tap into the spiritual “me”. I have found that the cup of coffee or tea is important because it signals to me this is the moment I am going to spiritually sink into my breathing, balance myself, and state my case with God. Whatever the moment brings for me, that is what it is. In other words I allow my ritual to unfold with no prior design or agenda.

I’ve often thought, and said, how we begin our morning is how our day will unfold. I like mine to begin with good thoughts, or dumping out difficult feelings, and replacing them with better more powerful ones. This morning ritual for me is my inspiration time. Often I will write my blog right after my morning moments. This did not happen automatically, I had to create it. I had already established my morning quiet moments with my coffee just to wake up and get ready for the day. It seemed simple to just add my spiritual moment with it. That way I know I will alway stick to it until it becomes a habit, and it has!

If you want to create sacred moments or just bring in some good habits for your life; think of things you already do and see what you can add to them. If you cook every day at 5pm, then consider adding some music and dancing while cooking. That brings in some exercise and some good mood enhancement. If you shop regularly, park way out in the back of the parking lot so you have to walk all the way to the front door and back. It might not seem like much but add a briskness to it and you have at least a couple minutes of even more exercise.

Or, if you procrastinate writing your book, think of when you are on your computer just checking social media. Cut some of that time and move over to your book and just write a few sentences or do some editing. It has been said it takes at least 21 days to establish a new habit. Keep on doing it and you will find your book will be written more often than social media time.

I need to read in order to write wisely on topics. I also love my reading time. I am so curious and love to read on certain topics that really interest me. It’s so easy to plop down into bed and just go to sleep or meditate myself to sleep. I have found if I go to bed earlier and pick up the book while I am still mostly awake then I establish a way to finish that book instead of allowing it to just sit on the nightstand.

I’m sure if you consider your day you can find things you regularly do that can be added to in order to enhance your life and establish a new habit. Whatever you do, consider when you can add your quiet inspired time when you can be spiritually silent and just allow thoughts to enter into your mind. Let this time be sacred; moments when you and God meet with body, mind and spirit to enhance your life.

There are enough moments in a day to get everything done that you need to do. Take out the things that no longer serve you and replace them with your needs, wants, and desires. If you need to drink more water, put a water bottle next to your bedside or place of spiritual inspiration. After your spiritual time drink water.

I think you get my point. Start by creating a list of all of the things you want to add to your daily life and habits. Then narrow that list down to just 3-5 and add one of them at a time. Group it with something you already do. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you have a good strategy to get it all created!

If You Want a Better Life…

DECIDE! It is not the events in your life that control it. It is the decisions you make in your life that controls it. You might not think so but its truth. You can decide to let events cause you to decline or you can decide to allow difficult events cause you to rise above. It’s not always easy. We are programmed to be a certain way by the way we grew up until now. It takes PRACTICE and AWARENESS.

Practice feeding yourself the things that are good for you. We feed ourselves daily to sustain our bodies. When it comes to our bodies, garbage in, garbage out. Good stuff in then good stuff will come of it. It’s the same with feeding the mind. Garbage in, garbage out. Our lives reflect what we decide to put into it. Good stuff in then good stuff will be reflected on the outside. If you are in a grumpy bad mood or find yourself with a quick temper then it’s a sure sign you have been feeding your mind GARBAGE. You might not believe this at first. Test it. If you feast on things such as violent programming, negative content, hang around people who really don’t give two hoots about you. Your life will decline.

But, if you change that around and just DECIDE to only take in good things into your mind, your life will reflect what you take in. Again, you have to decide and then follow through. Don’t whine if you are not willing to do the work. You HAVE to do the work to make it work. Plain and simple.

Don’t be hard on yourself. Just keep trying. We all get down, depressed, upset, angry, and sad. Life is a challenge. We can also challenge ourselves just like someone who is working out their body. Challenge yourself for 4 weeks to only feed on positive things. When people get negative around you, walk away. I’m not saying turn your back on someone who is hurting. I am saying stay away from the nay saying and negativity. Be your own life coach. Feed your mind for a solid month with great programming! Your life will reflect it on the outside because you will begin to attract a more positive experience. Never fails. Just DECIDE and follow through.

Are You a Fraction of Yourself?

IMG_20171023_130408I would hate to be laying in that space between this life and mortal death with deep regrets over all of the things I wish I had explored in this life, but did not. Every now and then I think of this. Would I regret some of my choices or lack of choices? I wonder what I might of done or been but did not think myself worthy, or did not take the time. I even wonder more if I would have missed the boat on something special because others did not approve of what I was becoming, believing, or doing.

Remember that old quote “To thine own self be true?” Have you even asked your “self” what it wants or desires right now? Or have you asked and know what it is but are afraid to pursue it? We can always look outside of ourselves at others and see the things they “are” or “do” and think, “I would love to do that!” But, is it something that truly can belong to you? Does it cause your heart to sing and does it compliment you so much that you glow at the prospect?

Often we don’t even know what we want or what we desire to believe because we are too busy looking outside of ourselves to find it. Believe me, there is a seed deep inside of you that only you can be and believe to be. You will know it when you discover it because immediately it won’t fit anyone else’s “self” because it is uniquely yours. Whatever has been planted at this moment will make your heart sing, will cause others to walk away, will bring new people to your path, and will confuse you until you actually “do it”.

Our own personal truth is important because we are all important. No one has to approve of you. God already has. No one has to agree with you because God who lives in you is your witness. Whatever works for you, works for you, and it will be shown by success and joy!

There are a lot of things in this world we can fill the hole inside of us with. Sometimes it can be things or people. The greater things are those which are not tangible but they are eternal. The truths that are inside of you are there for your eternal well being and not for anyone else to approve of. You are who you are, and there is no one else who can take your place.

It can be so easy to not live up to our potential because we think others expect something else from us. If we walk in this way, we deny ourselves the full truth and we deny others of who we truly are. Think about this for a moment. Do you believe the things you believe because they have been shown to be true to you or because others have taught you what to believe and how? This is a hard one because so many of us have sat under the teaching of others. Its great to trust them with our hearts and life path, but no one could possibly know every facet of our being like God can. God lives in our being.

Seriously consider this; “Are you living as a fraction of your true self because you have been taught to believe a certain way, or be a certain way, by others?” I want better for you. I want the BEST for you! So be the best you that you can be! TRUST yourself and God who lives in you! Be “the one” for all that you are. Whatever you do, don’t lay in a sorrowful place some day and regret not showing the parts of you that you hide from everyone else because its not popular for some. Your tribe is there and they will find you, so be who you are; always!

“I am determined to never live as a fraction of myself but in the wholeness of my personal truth no matter what anyone else might feel or believe. I will not live with regrets and I will trust that all things truly do work for good for those who love God. I will trust God who dwells inside my temple for my life’s decisions and my personal truth.”

Don’t Compromise the Dream!

Rev Jenine MarieI want to encourage you today, as someone who is once again climbing back up to where my dream is. I want to inspire you  as someone who has lost the fabric threads of her dream over and over again and yet is still willing to keep on threading.

I know it hurts to lose a dream that you might have spent hours on end building upon, or maybe even decades. I have BEEN there. It is HARD to watch all of our good work being torn down one brick at a time and then feel like we are left just sitting on the rubble.

In 2005 my life got kicked in the ribs when I found myself losing a long term marriage. It was a slow and agonizing process I endured. I went through a process of losing literally everything I worked hard to obtain and build, right at the moment I was beginning to really see the fruit of my labor. Just that one incident called divorce, all of my dreams came down crashing on my head. I remember staring out the window of my office overlooking the city, crying, and asking God why on earth this had to happen. Couldn’t I just be happy for once? This was by far not my first devastation.

It took me a LONG time to even truly want to rebuild again. I said I wanted it, but my heart and soul just were not in it. I cried for it, I yearned for it, and I missed all that surrounded it every single day of my life. My losses just kept on coming. Things left my life one after another until I was left with nothing but rubble. Yet, there is something amazing about hitting the bottom of the barrel. There is NO WHERE ELSE TO FALL! Anything from that point on was gain. In the process, I had to let go of so many things. I had to forgive the hurts caused by others, the misunderstanding of my situation, and the confusion of my position in life. For awhile I had to remind myself of who I really am because I had truly forgotten.

I want to tell you, it takes HARD work to come back up from the bottom. It takes getting past the hurt, the depression, the sadness, the physical illness it has caused, the emotional upheaval, and discouragement. It also takes listening very deeply to the voice of God alone because He knows the pain and He also knows the way out and back up!

I want to encourage you today if you have given up on your dream because it seems way too hurtful and hard to recapture it. You are not alone in what you are feeling and enduring! I want you to shift your understanding right now, if you will. Close your eyes and see yourself once again in the dream you have always had for your life. Experience once again what that feels like, looks like, and where it takes you. There is nothing trivial about what you want out of life. It is all very important! YOUR dream is held in the arms of God and He is waiting to help you climb right back up to where you want to be. He will also inspire you toward more!

In the Bible when people who were called by God felt like they could not do things alone, they called upon Him to send them a support person. This person became a buddy to the dream and was there to watch and help it unfold.

Today, I ask that God send to you a buddy to work along side you and help you recapture the dream you always wanted to achieve. It might seem trivial to you at the moment , but if you are longing for it, then it is NOT trivial! Let God shift your mindset to all things that support you. Step away from those things and people who do not believe in you or your dream. It is not cruel or selfish to accomplish a great desire. After all, the more you succeed the more you can lift others to do the same, right?

Dear God, I will see my dream as IMPORTANT because it is important to You. I will NOT give up, but will stand firm in the things I deeply desire. I will ask for, and accept a support person to bless me with encouragement and to cheer me on along the way. I WILL recover from the losses of yesterday and I WILL obtain my greatest desire. I know YOU desire to give me what my heart longs for. It is sealed now in heaven in Jesus’ name, amen!

Supporting your dream,

So, How Do You Turn Your Life Around?

God-creating-the-galaxy-via-ShutterstockFrom the very beginning of time, God created! Our fabulous, amazing, and miraculous universe was created with God’s imagination and His spoken words. Honestly, I don’t think that the mere words on paper to describe this spectacular event is even enough to get a grasp of it’s power. Our God is not only loving but powerful!.

Through the acts of Christ, we have received God’s mighty loving and powerful Spirit who dwells in us and can work through us all. The only thing that limits us is our lack of belief that it is true. Belief is a powerful thing, amen? So, I suppose then we can also conclude that our conscious belief is powerful enough to create as a partner with God from the inside out. If He lives in us, then we can believe in his ability to transform not only our insides but also our outer life. Isn’t that what He wants for us? He has told us that His greatest desire above all else is for us to prosper, to have a future, and to have hope. Jesus Himself told His disciples, and us, that we will do greater things than even He had shown us.

Conscious creation is not exactly a new thing because spiritualists have been doing it for the longest time. The only problem I have seen with it is the tendency to leave Jesus out of it. This is unfortunate because He is our Savior and “the way”. Jesus is God, and the Biblical account of His human existence is so valuable in learning how to live our own lives  for the betterment of humanity.

We have seen that the spoken word is powerful! God tells us to dwell on His word because to do so will create the wonderful life He wants to give to us! His word is life!

Therefore, in knowing that what we dwell on and what we speak, creates life, then why not use this knowledge to create the best life ever? After all, the greatest Creator ever lives within us, is working in is, is creating in us, and can speak through us as well! Why not speak the very best, dwell on the very best, and live the very best life we can? Who would want it any other way?  Think of this; our house where we live is called “our dwelling”. Our created life comes from the God who lives inside of us and outside of us. When we dwell in that living water of love, power, beauty, and joy, then that is the life we live in. Is life hard at times? Oh my gosh, yes! But can we turn it around and make it better no matter what the outside life throws at us? You bet!

Let’s try it today:

Father, I know You live in me, and that You create good things inside of me and outside of me. Your nature is goodness and love, so therefore my nature is goodness and love as well. All that is needed is that I believe in You, Your nature, Your love and in the Salvation Jesus came to show me. I will dwell in goodness and therefore goodness and mercy will be mine now and the rest of my life, In Jesus’ powerful name, heart, and Spirit, amen!

Does that feel real great to you? If so, then maybe this can be the practice that pulls you through those hard times. Meditate on God’s word. His power will be with you to create and to succeed in the good things He wants for you!

Creatively Yours,

Pastor Jenine Marie Howry
