What Defines You?

The question my title presents is much more important than you might think. We tend to become what our minds believe we are. Sometimes it feels like a true battlefield. Our minds might insist one thing when we want it to believe something else. Our belief is tested when someone accuses us of being something we don’t feel we are or don’t desire to be. This is when the question in my title becomes even more important.

What is it that defines you? Are you defined by what others think or say you are? Or, are you defined by old stories your head might be telling you that spring up from the past?Sometimes people can define themselves by what they were told they were from others long ago. The crazy thing is those times have long drifted into nothingness, and yet, sometimes we are still battling those words or thoughts. Sometimes they are blame or shame based statements toward us that we take on today.

The mind is the biggest battlefield we can ever try to overcome. Not only will it tell you things about yourself that are not true, but if you believe the thoughts, you will also react as if they are true. Old thoughts in error can guide you to assume things about other people that are not true as well. I always tell others to not assume things about someone’s thoughts. Always ask! It’s the only way to really truly find out. Even if you don’t want to know the answer. Truth is truth. We only should act out of what is true and not a false belief as to what is true.

This is why it is so important to reprogram your mind daily. It is a daily battle to conquer the false statements we believe about ourselves and others. Any time something comes to mind about yourself or someone else, ask first , ‘Is it true?” before you act. Otherwise you might act out of a lie or false belief. This can cause more hardship than you ever wanted to experience, or even worse, hurt someone or yourself needlessly.

Take the time to reprogram your mind daily. Use what you want to be true about yourself, life, and align your thoughts with those goals. Also, erase your false beliefs about others by starting each day as brand new. Take in these affirmations:

“I affirm that my life will go as I have determined in my mind it will be.

“I affirm that I will ask others about their thoughts before I assume.”

” I affirm that I will walk in peace with all beings, act in honesty with myself and others.”

“I affirm I will work through whatever I believe about others that makes me uncomfortable as to not harm them.”

“I affirm to work through the hard things so that peace and harmony can be my bannor and not chaos that I create for myself.:

You might think of some new ones for yourself! Bottom line, don’t assume you know. Also, change what you don’t want in life to what you do want by creating peaceful resolutions toward that goal.

“First do no harm.”

Hypnosis: The Reframing and Renewing of the Mind

selective focus photo of woman leaning on huge jar

Do you wonder where your life is going? Let me answer that very simply. It always goes where your thoughts drive it. Read that again! Thoughts are crazy things. Sometimes we seem to manufacture them and others they are below the surface of our conscious mind. There is a huge reason why God wants us to transform our lives by the renewing of our minds. Its because our lives go where our conscious and unconscious thoughts will guide it. We are only transformed as much as we are willing to change our minds. This is both our conscious and unconscious.

The unconscious mind (or subconscious) is a tricky little stinker. It always wants to drive the bus. Meaning, our lives tend to be on auto pilot until we take hold of it and make the changes we desire. Otherwise it never will change. I love hypnosis for this. Unlike what most people think, hypnosis is not an altered state, but a heightened state of awareness. This means that things become more clear and also more in control. We change our minds every single day. Why not change the unconscious part of our minds? Even our Creator knows this, and beckons us to transform our lives through renewal.

Ever wonder why those who seek healing from addictions, weight loss, fear, anxiety or depression, never seem to accomplish this even though they might have faith that they can? I have our answer. It’s because it always takes action. Yes, you have to also do the work. That is where learning happens and where miracles happen too! God made our minds very sensitive to suggestion and we can change just about anything by the renewing of our minds. We let go of old patterns and renew our thought processes with new ones that we want to feed into our higher minds.

This works! We might let go of old patterns but if not replaced by new ones then the old ones will just slip back in. Plus, we have to make the new patterns  stick by creating them to be a habit. Most people believe this takes about 21 days. I believe it takes as long or short a time as it takes. We are all different. It probably takes a shorter period of time if there is more passion for the change. Either we are hurting enough to really want it or the desire is so strong we really want it. So goes the magic of transformation!

If you need or desire change this coming year, why not try hypnosis? I have some great downloads coming up that will be pre-recorded OR a session can be created for your change process. Start out with renewing your mind from top to bottom!

Hard to Press: What Feels Right?

It’s so frustrating to attempt ironing a garment that refuses to unwrinkle. Usually items that are 100% cotton or even linen are the most difficult. They can be taken to someone to be professionally laundered and still they wrinkle so easy when worn. Usually we try to spray starch the heck out of them just to keep them smooth. Then we have a stiff garment that feels uncomfortable to wear. I stay away from wearing anything that causes me to feel uneasy or stiff. I always talk about living a life in ease. Well, we certainly can’t do that while wearing something stiff, right?

I find it to be the same with life choices. When something becomes so uneasy or is hard to press, the wrinkles just don’t come out no matter what we do. We can try to iron things out but the bottom line is wearing the choice is way too stiff. We can iron the seams, starch life stiff by upping our behavior, or take things to be professionally laundered by calling in the “experts” to smooth things over. Unfortunately, this situation works the same way with our life choices as it does our clothing choices. I’m not saying everything has to be comfortable all of the time. There is no growth in pressing through hard situations. I am saying that some situations will refuse to smooth out no matter what we do. Time to change fabric!

It’s pretty simple. When something is not feeling right, make attempts to change it, or consider leaving it behind you. There is no expert on yourself who is better than YOU. No one can tell you what is right for you, what fits you best, or how to behave to make it better. I am all for ironing out our differences but some wrinkles refuse to iron. We can choose to wear them and be uncomfortable or change fabric. Some things wear better with more acceptance, understanding, and learning how to deal with issues as an ambassador. Some things never wear better and its best to change garments all together.

Whatever your consideration might be, you know yourself better than anyone else does. No one has to teach you what to accept, what feels right, or what feels too uncomfortable to continue to wear. Wearing what no longer feels right just causes wear on our lives. Some things just don’t iron out no matter what we do and therefore we move on to newer and greater things that fit better. Sometimes it just means we have outgrown the garment.

It’s Alright to Be a “Runner”

36897146_10156789152789255_3150814499703881728_n

For the longest time I have felt very honest with myself, and others, when classifying myself as “a runner”. It means I take off when things are not working for me, hurtful, harmful, or when I am completely “done” with a situation. This does not mean running from responsibility or what I know is right. It means running from what is wrong for me. I suppose a better way of describing it is a “turning away from” a situation in search of a new experience.

When I look back, I have realized that often my issue is not running from bad situations but actually staying way too long in them, or around them. Then I’ve come to a point where I have had enough and really don’t care to experience it any longer. I leave it behind me. It’s what we are supposed to do! It’s what I should always have done from the beginning. It’s not selfish, it is self preservation.

You see, it’s part of the human navigation system. When we sense danger or become uncomfortable with something, we are meant to turn from it. It might be very obvious or just a hint of something could just feel “off”. Sometimes seasons have changed and what used to work for us no longer does. So we leave it behind and grasp at something that works better. Why be discontented or unhappy when a new change can make life so much more enjoyable?

Why would God say, “Behold, I make all things new” and not mean it? In order to make things new, our actions need to reflect our responsibility in the process. Sometimes I crave what is new. Most of the time I have to be fed up to create an action. That’s probably an example of waiting too long. Following a much needed change can bring a new sense of empowerment that was not present before. We need this! It is part of growing and evolution as a person.

Apostle Paul spoke of leaving that which is behind and reaching forward for what is ahead. If anyone knew about leaving things behind it was him. He traveled so much he was like a gypsy. I totally get that feeling! As I have looked back, I have realized something important. Every time I left a situation it has been for a good reason and usually to correct a wrong choice for me. Even in wise choices, not everything stays the same. We are always in flux because we are meant to always evolve. Staying stale and stagnant accomplishes nothing but discovering depression, stunted growth, and disharmony with where life is pulling us toward.

Being a runner is a good thing when we are running toward what preserves us, grows us, and brings us peace. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that is worth compromising our peace of mind and heart.

Does Hypnosis Really Work?

photo of a woman hugging a blue pillow
Photo by bruce mars on Pexels.com

Did you know you are always “on”? What I mean by that is, your mind is always working. Not just your brain, but your mind. This includes what we call the “unconscious” mind. You have both consciousness and a part of you that is always running in the background. The unconscious mind is kind of like a computer program that just runs and monitors everything. The only thing is, the unconscious mind also controls a lot of things; much more than you might believe.

Also, like a computer, it can be programmed to change things you desire to change. It’s really quite simple. You tell it what you want instead of having it run on autopilot in the background telling you how life will be. Much of what is there can be attributed to what you have experienced in the past and other things are habits you have picked up along the way as a result of past and choices you have made.

In an article printed this month by Chicago Magazine, a writer speaks of her experience going to a certified hypnotist in order to stop her from clenching her jaw. This is something many of us do. It comes from stress, becomes a habit, and not only grinds the teeth down but causes headaches too. The title of the article is “A Hypnosis Skeptic Gets Very, Very Sleepy.” In the article she explains how hypnosis proved to be advantageous and effective in making much needed, or desired, changes in life.

Like the author, many go into hypnosis sessions very skeptical. I know I did at one time. The hypnotist proved me wrong. I had a very uncomfortable situation to face in life and it brought about a great deal of fear. It was fear of being in the presence of a person and confrontation. During the first session I suddenly saw this person as a small mouse and I was a huge cat! The hypnotist did not feed this into my brain, it just appeared! As she did her thing, vision after vision entered into my mind. I was so relaxed, empowered, and honestly wanted to fall asleep. Yet, I was also aware of everything. My fear was resolved and I confronted my situation with confidence and won!

Most people only go into mild hypnosis, which is the Alpha state of trance and are aware of what is being said, and surroundings. In fact, just reading this article you might still be aware of what is going on around you while you read. Or you might stare at your phone reading a text, and yet be working out what to fix for dinner at night. Then there is the situation where you might be driving and envisioning other scenarios at the same time. Before you know it, you are at your destination. It seems like time has flown and you have been mildly entertained at the same time. This is hypnosis. Its not deepeened hypnosis but it is still hypnosis.

We all have things we would love to change; some things more critical than others. Hypnosis can do this! There is nothing scary or freaky about it. You do it every day of your life. The difference between that and going to see someone for a clinical hypnosis session is the decision is mutually made to make a change and the intent is focused on that change. Usually it only takes a few sessions and a recording of the original hypnosis session to take home with you. It’s quite an amazing miracle for those who truly suffer from anxiety, fears, habits, depression, weight issues, and more. Unlike what many are led to believe, the hypnotist does not have control of your mind and can’t give you any suggestions that you would normally not accept. You are still in control of everything, especially the desired change you truly want!

So, to take away the fear of coming out of a hypnotic trance clucking like a chicken, let me assure you in this. The stage hypnosis we have been taught in days gone by are not the results that will happen while seeing a certified and trained hypnotherapist. Why not give it a try for those things you wish were different in your life? It won’t help you control others but it will help you handle others actions better if that is what you are seeking.

When “Things” Are Not Meant to Be

I believe that life has a natural flow and when we are willing to look deep enough we can see where things are shifting. This flow is not as easily seen as the seasons when they change in weather but they can be seen, felt, and discerned. It’s always hard to shift to a new season, or direction in life. This means it’s time to say good-bye to that which no longer serves us so there will be room for that which does.

Some indications that something is meant to leave your life or your direction is changing:

  1. Nothing seems to go right any more when attempting to do what you have been doing.
  2. Suddenly it feels very negative and is filled with negative people.
  3. Authority is shifted and you no longer have the upper hand in your own life path when it comes to this certain thing.
  4. People who normally feel very connected no longer do.
  5. Your heart just does not seem “in it” any longer.
  6. You no longer feel joy from what you are doing.
  7. New things begin to entice you into a new direction.
  8. You find that your interests have changed.
  9. You are bored with the same old processes in life and the same old routine.
  10. You have a hunger for more, to learn more, to shift to a new position in life, to find new peace for your mind and soul.

These are just some things you might notice when the “flow” is changing in a particular area of your life. Just as the seasons change, everything must die so that new growth can present itself. As with anything, it can be hard at first, but also the excitement and prospect of new things can propel you forward.

What to do:

Let go of that which is behind and reach forward to that which is before you! Look at the new horizon and stay fixed on the beauty of it all!

Onward and upward! Embrace change, and don’t resist it. You just never know. You might wake up with a whole new facet of life ahead of you!

If You Want a Better Life…

DECIDE! It is not the events in your life that control it. It is the decisions you make in your life that controls it. You might not think so but its truth. You can decide to let events cause you to decline or you can decide to allow difficult events cause you to rise above. It’s not always easy. We are programmed to be a certain way by the way we grew up until now. It takes PRACTICE and AWARENESS.

Practice feeding yourself the things that are good for you. We feed ourselves daily to sustain our bodies. When it comes to our bodies, garbage in, garbage out. Good stuff in then good stuff will come of it. It’s the same with feeding the mind. Garbage in, garbage out. Our lives reflect what we decide to put into it. Good stuff in then good stuff will be reflected on the outside. If you are in a grumpy bad mood or find yourself with a quick temper then it’s a sure sign you have been feeding your mind GARBAGE. You might not believe this at first. Test it. If you feast on things such as violent programming, negative content, hang around people who really don’t give two hoots about you. Your life will decline.

But, if you change that around and just DECIDE to only take in good things into your mind, your life will reflect what you take in. Again, you have to decide and then follow through. Don’t whine if you are not willing to do the work. You HAVE to do the work to make it work. Plain and simple.

Don’t be hard on yourself. Just keep trying. We all get down, depressed, upset, angry, and sad. Life is a challenge. We can also challenge ourselves just like someone who is working out their body. Challenge yourself for 4 weeks to only feed on positive things. When people get negative around you, walk away. I’m not saying turn your back on someone who is hurting. I am saying stay away from the nay saying and negativity. Be your own life coach. Feed your mind for a solid month with great programming! Your life will reflect it on the outside because you will begin to attract a more positive experience. Never fails. Just DECIDE and follow through.

Do You Shrink Back On Your Follow Through?

attachment-1

One of the most frustrating issues we deal with as humans has to be procrastination. Or maybe sometimes we just get distracted with so much bouncing around at us all of the time. I can see why many of us don’t follow through on things we really want in life. We find ways to justify why we can’t do it. Or sometimes we lose our nerve or even our momentum.

Having an encourager is so important in life! I’m telling you, someone who is always on your side, has your back, won’t allow you to shrink back, and will root you on, is one of the most valuable people ever! No one accomplishes anything without others. We might think we can, but it’s a lonely and very limited journey.

If you need someone to keep you on track, why not book a session or two with me? Sometimes having someone to help you map out your destination and keep you on course is all you need to keep from shrinking back!

Whatever your goal might be, a special weight loss program, a task you always wanted to accomplish, a new business venture, or finding a great new relationship, you can benefit from guided coaching and encouragement. I WILL make you accountable and help you define what goal you want to accomplish and what your deepest desire is. We all need a little push now and then. Let me give you that nudge and maybe a little more!

Addictions: Is There a Way Out?

addiction aid bottle capsule

Before I begin with this blog post I want to say that addictions in our country is one of the hardest issues we deal with. The complications an addiction can bring to one life are so saddening. It often goes from wasting precious time to the loss of life. Regardless, addiction is not only a personal illness or disease. Addictions to substances or actions affect everyone the addict is in connection with. The worry, the concern, and the stress caused by being in connection with an addicted person can wear away at the life of those who love them.

Let’s Take a Look at the Bottom Line of Addiction and the “Whys”

I’m going to just put this out there. It’s pretty simple actually. Every addicted person feels that they lack pleasure in life and need a substance, action, or even person, to bring comfort from the difficult feelings one has. For some reason every addict seems to believe that life is supposed to be blissful, joyful, and problem free all of the time. NOT TRUE! Life is a learning journey and there is no way any life will ever have complete peace all of the time. This world is filled with problems from relational to humanitarian. It might seem simplistic but one of the greatest battles to fighting addiction is for an addict to first come to the understanding that life will have challenges and will not always “feel” good all of the time. Going by feelings instead of faith or practical knowledge is probably the first mistake any addicted person makes. We all feel and all can be sensitive to one thing or another. Yet, being driven by feelings alone can create a multitude of issues.

Bottom line, we are not meant to be comfortable all of the time. Masking the hard issues in life by using a substance or situation only stops a person from receiving the life lesson they need to grow up as a human being. What is the result? Stunted growth; especially spiritual growth.

So what about the pleasure centers of the brain?

Our brains are an amazing part of our creation. The brain is meant to control our bodily functions, guide our lives and record them. We also have pleasure neurotransmitters that are like carriers to the rest of the body. They tell us we are having a good experience or not. Sometimes they can control how we look at life if we allow them to. For instance, someone who has depression usually does not maintain adequate serotonin in the brain and therefore “feels” depressed. An anti-depressant can be given to help the brain maintain serotonin in order to correct the problem. Depending on the person, the same can be accomplished by helping the brain maintain the right level of dopamine. Both of these neurotransmitters are like “feel good” connectors. Those who have issues with neurotransmitter imbalances struggle with every day life and being able to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Much to our misunderstanding there is a way out of addictions and what they do to the brain chemistry. The neuro-pathways of the mind can be rewired by meditation, affirmation, and also hypnosis. Spiritual practices can also be just as uplifting as an anti-depressant given that the practice is created as a good habit in life. There is a way out! If you struggle with addictions of any kind you can correct the imbalances in your brain that life has created and actually overcome the addictions that plague you. Also, learning how to deal and cope with life’s setbacks is a real important part of the process. Dedication and desire come into play because without these nothing else will work out. If you really want out of the addiction trap the good news is there is one! The decision that you must make is if your dedication and desire are strong enough to really work on making the necessary changes. Often if a person experiences enough pain created by their addiction it can be enough to create a strong desire to change and heal.

Your life is waiting ahead of you! Why not consider making the change from being trapped in a nowhere life to really living the life you have been given! If you need help in this area, please call and find out how you can overcome your addictions!

++IMPORTANT Note: Detox from any substance such as a drug or alcohol is a very serious process and should not be attempted alone. Please seek medical attention before beginning any other process or along side a new process. Your overall health must be assessed. Remember, if you have been altered for a long period of time your entire body has been altered down to a cellular level as well.
