Amazing Facts About Hypnotherapy

Photo by bruce mars on Pexels.com

Hypnotherapy or hypnosis is a fantastic tool to help change and overcome negative thoughts or reactions in life. While placed in a mild form of trance, an individual can receive desired suggestions from a skilled hypnotherapist to assist in weight loss, release pain or anxiety, help with depression, and even stop unwanted habits. One of the more profound changes that can be introduced through hypnosis is behavior modification or behavior changes. Behavioral change is a benefit of hypnosis supported and researched by the Mayo Clinic.

Since our lives and outcomes of situations are about our behavior, changing unwanted behavior and responses can completely change the quality of an individual’s life. Even relationships can be improved by behavioral modification through hypnotherapy.

Unlike what some might expect, hypnosis is not falling asleep but more of a heightened state of awareness. Even so, some individuals might fall asleep due to the relaxation state achieved through a hypnotic induction. WebMD explains two ways hypnosis can be used in a therapeutic or a counseling situation; for analysis during therapy or suggestion.

During hypnotic analysis, a client is placed into a mild trance where responses to the leading questioning can help bring out reasons for distress or hidden heart wounds. Since we all tend to lead and live according to many of our heart wounds, bringing them to the surface to heal them can help tremendously in the process of discovery and recovery.

Hypnotic suggestion is just as it sounds to be. Hypnosis can be used to place an individual into a deeper trance state, and the therapist feeds suggestions to reprogram or reformat the subconscious mind. Changing the subconscious is an effective way to change lifelong poor habits and gain new, more productive habits! Some of the wonderful ways to make changes are to have the subconscious mind accept suggestions for more productivity, abundance, self-worth, self-confidence, or even get that old tendency toward eating the wrong things out of mind and out of sight!

One prevalent and sometimes controversial reason for hypnosis is for past life regression. Our past life can be considered what happened in the past during this lifetime. Those who adhere to reincarnation hypnotic regression can regress clients into former lives with amazing clarity. During a regression, an individual’s reasoning or conscious mind is bypassed while the hypnotherapist guides into the subconscious mind that has a recall of all that has been experienced before. Through this process, the higher self, or what some call the superconscious mind, is connected with, and discoveries can be made, recorded, and analyzed to help bring more insights into the present life lived.

Although past life regression is controversial to some people, it can help those who embrace the concept or are willing to be open-minded about it (pun intended)! Even seeking back into one’s forgotten childhood experiences can be overwhelmingly helpful as situations and experiences are brought forth to help bring healing and hope for new things on the horizon.

Interesting reading regarding past life regression can be found in the book Many Lives, Many Masters: The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist, His Young Patient, And The Past-Life Therapy That Changed Both Their Lives by author Brian L Weiss M.D. The preface of Dr. Weiss’ book begins like this:

“ I know that there is a reason for everything. Perhaps at the moment that an event occurs, we have neither the insight or the foresight to comprehend the reason, but with time and patience, it will come to light” (Weiss 1988).

Regression, analysis, and hypnotic suggestions can all work together to help bring ease, enlightenment, and new focus into life. Even more, some of the old un-useful habits can be released and reprogrammed for better ones. Several sessions are usually needed as mindfulness, subconscious thoughts, and past life thoughts are recorded, analyzed, and reprogrammed. The final results can be absolutely life-changing! Hypnosis is one of the most relaxing and revolutionary tools to use in complicated cases or even to stop the old habits that hold us back from being our authentic and true selves.

Although hypnosis is not for everyone, such as those with dissociative or severe mental illnesses, the practice can help many achieve the freedom and lives they desire. Healing is what we are here for. Once we heal, we are enticed to help others heal too. In fact, our recovery can bring substantial healing to others without trying. We affect everyone around us every day of our lives.

What Defines You?

The question my title presents is much more important than you might think. We tend to become what our minds believe we are. Sometimes it feels like a true battlefield. Our minds might insist one thing when we want it to believe something else. Our belief is tested when someone accuses us of being something we don’t feel we are or don’t desire to be. This is when the question in my title becomes even more important.

What is it that defines you? Are you defined by what others think or say you are? Or, are you defined by old stories your head might be telling you that spring up from the past?Sometimes people can define themselves by what they were told they were from others long ago. The crazy thing is those times have long drifted into nothingness, and yet, sometimes we are still battling those words or thoughts. Sometimes they are blame or shame based statements toward us that we take on today.

The mind is the biggest battlefield we can ever try to overcome. Not only will it tell you things about yourself that are not true, but if you believe the thoughts, you will also react as if they are true. Old thoughts in error can guide you to assume things about other people that are not true as well. I always tell others to not assume things about someone’s thoughts. Always ask! It’s the only way to really truly find out. Even if you don’t want to know the answer. Truth is truth. We only should act out of what is true and not a false belief as to what is true.

This is why it is so important to reprogram your mind daily. It is a daily battle to conquer the false statements we believe about ourselves and others. Any time something comes to mind about yourself or someone else, ask first , ‘Is it true?” before you act. Otherwise you might act out of a lie or false belief. This can cause more hardship than you ever wanted to experience, or even worse, hurt someone or yourself needlessly.

Take the time to reprogram your mind daily. Use what you want to be true about yourself, life, and align your thoughts with those goals. Also, erase your false beliefs about others by starting each day as brand new. Take in these affirmations:

“I affirm that my life will go as I have determined in my mind it will be.

“I affirm that I will ask others about their thoughts before I assume.”

” I affirm that I will walk in peace with all beings, act in honesty with myself and others.”

“I affirm I will work through whatever I believe about others that makes me uncomfortable as to not harm them.”

“I affirm to work through the hard things so that peace and harmony can be my bannor and not chaos that I create for myself.:

You might think of some new ones for yourself! Bottom line, don’t assume you know. Also, change what you don’t want in life to what you do want by creating peaceful resolutions toward that goal.

“First do no harm.”

Hypnosis: The Reframing and Renewing of the Mind

Do you wonder where your life is going? Let me answer that very simply. It always goes where your thoughts drive it. Read that again! Thoughts are crazy things. Sometimes we seem to manufacture them and others they are below the surface of our conscious mind. There is a huge reason why God wants us to transform our lives by the renewing of our minds. Its because our lives go where our conscious and unconscious thoughts will guide it. We are only transformed as much as we are willing to change our minds. This is both our conscious and unconscious.

The unconscious mind (or subconscious) is a tricky little stinker. It always wants to drive the bus. Meaning, our lives tend to be on auto pilot until we take hold of it and make the changes we desire. Otherwise it never will change. I love hypnosis for this. Unlike what most people think, hypnosis is not an altered state, but a heightened state of awareness. This means that things become more clear and also more in control. We change our minds every single day. Why not change the unconscious part of our minds? Even our Creator knows this, and beckons us to transform our lives through renewal.

Ever wonder why those who seek healing from addictions, weight loss, fear, anxiety or depression, never seem to accomplish this even though they might have faith that they can? I have our answer. It’s because it always takes action. Yes, you have to also do the work. That is where learning happens and where miracles happen too! God made our minds very sensitive to suggestion and we can change just about anything by the renewing of our minds. We let go of old patterns and renew our thought processes with new ones that we want to feed into our higher minds.

This works! We might let go of old patterns but if not replaced by new ones then the old ones will just slip back in. Plus, we have to make the new patterns  stick by creating them to be a habit. Most people believe this takes about 21 days. I believe it takes as long or short a time as it takes. We are all different. It probably takes a shorter period of time if there is more passion for the change. Either we are hurting enough to really want it or the desire is so strong we really want it. So goes the magic of transformation!

If you need or desire change this coming year, why not try hypnosis? I have some great downloads coming up that will be pre-recorded OR a session can be created for your change process. Start out with renewing your mind from top to bottom!

Healing and Restoration Through Memory

selective focus photography of girl in green and black striped sweater holding and blowing dandelion

I will always cherish the moments my mother would bring me grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup when I was sick as a little girl. She would tuck me into bed during the day, put a little black and white television in my room next to me and bring me my comfort food with a little glass of apple juice on a tray. All day, my job was to get better. I watched old black and white episodes of “I love Lucy” and anything else that came on after that.

Every now and then I would drift into a deep sleep and wake feeling much better. Sometimes Mom would bring me hot chocolate or some tea with sugar in it to soothe my throat or whatever else was bothering me. They were not medicine in the form of pills but they healed because love was in the giving of them and the receiving of them.

Sometimes on lazy Saturday afternoons I would wander into the spare room where the sun was shining brightly on the floor. I would have a book in my hand and ready to snuggle into a cozy green lounge chair with a blanket for the day. My day was spent lost in the stories of the book I had chosen for that day. The characters, the scenery, the chapters, became my reality just for that moment. It was so much more than that though. My thoughts were also lost in the innocence and beauty of the story and how the ending would unfold. It was not so much the story, the book, the chair, the sunshine, or the room that was healing to me, but the love I felt for myself at the moment. Self care is actually learned early on. We choose to somehow unlearn it over time. It’s like we begin to think spending time on ourselves is a waste of time so we lose out on that experience.

Whenever life becomes hard for me and tears end up flowing from my eyes and heart, I like to wander back to those moments in time. Since there really is no time when we think of eternity, my experience is just the same now as it was then. I get just as much comfort in the memory and reenacting the moment in my mind. In fact, it has been found that our bodies will respond to what we are thinking of and visualizing at the moment, just like they did when the actual event had happened the first time.

This is why it is so important to dwell on things that are uplifting for us. Our bodies respond to our thoughts. Whatever is good, pleasing and admirable; think on these things. The Bible always has had good advice. When I want to feel love I go back and dwell on what gave me that child like experience of love before I knew any different. Sometimes we overemphasize the harm of “comfort food” that we forget that sometimes there is a use for it. That would be when the act of giving it created a feeling and experience of healing love. If that is not what you are feeling then put down the cupcake! I think you get what I am saying.

Sometimes I close my eyes and watch myself play with jax on the hardware floor of an old three story house we used to live in when I was little. Or there was the time I used to use the floor heaters to pretend to make tea for my little tea parties. The memories are endless and they are so healing as long as I know I can stay with the good loving feelings that they can reproduce in my body. When this happens depression can be lifted, anxiety can be calmed and the body can be restored to a cell level. Our bodies “remember” what state it was in when those things happened. To our bodies there is no time or space. It is like the scene is happening again right at the moment of remembering and feeling.

On a particular windy day I remember walking down a familiar street and suddenly stopping to close my eyes and just feel the breeze against my face. I remember how I smiled at that moment. To this day, bringing back that memory when I am meditating will still bring me a smile.

I completely believe our bodies, minds, and souls can be restored just by allowing them to “remember” to that deep of a level. It’s not modern medicine. It’s not a pill, and it does not really make sense to many people but it does work! All we have to do is remember to remember. Our unconscious mind will bypass the conscious mind and take over like it has been waiting to bring some wisdom of thought! This is why hypnosis works so well. It brings the body into alignment with what is being programmed into the unconscious mind instead of analyzing every little thing that is happening in front of us. Habits can be changed to good ones. If we don’t reprogram our unconscious mind it will drive our lives with all the mess we have experienced over the years.

I ask you. Do you really want that? Or, do you want to be restored by the renewing of your mind?

If You Want a Better Life…

DECIDE! It is not the events in your life that control it. It is the decisions you make in your life that controls it. You might not think so but its truth. You can decide to let events cause you to decline or you can decide to allow difficult events cause you to rise above. It’s not always easy. We are programmed to be a certain way by the way we grew up until now. It takes PRACTICE and AWARENESS.

Practice feeding yourself the things that are good for you. We feed ourselves daily to sustain our bodies. When it comes to our bodies, garbage in, garbage out. Good stuff in then good stuff will come of it. It’s the same with feeding the mind. Garbage in, garbage out. Our lives reflect what we decide to put into it. Good stuff in then good stuff will be reflected on the outside. If you are in a grumpy bad mood or find yourself with a quick temper then it’s a sure sign you have been feeding your mind GARBAGE. You might not believe this at first. Test it. If you feast on things such as violent programming, negative content, hang around people who really don’t give two hoots about you. Your life will decline.

But, if you change that around and just DECIDE to only take in good things into your mind, your life will reflect what you take in. Again, you have to decide and then follow through. Don’t whine if you are not willing to do the work. You HAVE to do the work to make it work. Plain and simple.

Don’t be hard on yourself. Just keep trying. We all get down, depressed, upset, angry, and sad. Life is a challenge. We can also challenge ourselves just like someone who is working out their body. Challenge yourself for 4 weeks to only feed on positive things. When people get negative around you, walk away. I’m not saying turn your back on someone who is hurting. I am saying stay away from the nay saying and negativity. Be your own life coach. Feed your mind for a solid month with great programming! Your life will reflect it on the outside because you will begin to attract a more positive experience. Never fails. Just DECIDE and follow through.

Do We Have to Age Gracefully?

pexels-photo-972278.jpegI was visiting my favorite drug store here in Paris, TX to grab a few things I needed for the week. A lovely lady with a very modern hair style with some awesome red highlights helped me at the cosmetic counter when I was ready to be rung up. Before she gave me the total I asked if they take AARP, which is an organization that gives benefits and discounts to older people. She proudly said they did and in fact she noted she would have to get one of those, (an AARP card).

Suddenly a huge smile hit her face as she let me know she was 56 years old! Wow, she sure did not look it. I would have never known. In fact, she looked in her late 30’s or 40’s. Since she shared, I was happy to share my age. She returned my complement, “Wow, you sure don’t look that age!” I don’t mind my age. I just don’t want to FEEL my age. I still think I’m in my 30’s but certainly know I am not after all the life I have lived through.

As I drove off, I thought to myself, “Age is a state of mind, not an amount of years that have been lived.” In my mind, I am still as young as when my kids were growing up. Now they are grown. What could ever stop me from being as young as my thoughts can create me to be? It’s true, the body changes after a certain age, but we don’t have to feel older. We can feel as young as we desire to believe we are. I have heard of people finishing college in their 80’s or running marathons in their 70’s. Can we really overcome any physical obstacles that are placed upon our chronological age? If its true that we live from the inside out and our thoughts create, then our bodies should follow suit and be as young as we believe we are. In other words, nothing should stop us from keeping as active as we can and vital as we believe we are.

Do we really need to “grow older gracefully” or can we decide we are as young as we feel? What is YOUR choice?

Renewing the Mind Into the New Year!

jeninemariecoachingWhen I think of renewing the mind, my sense of humor wants to see my brain all dusty and filled with cobwebs ready to be swept away. It’s not a bad visual actually. We all have old stuff in there. I sure know that I do! It usually likes to come out when I lay down to sleep at night and I’m not quite sleepy enough to drift off yet. Once I allow all that junk to come alive at night, that’s pretty much it for sleeping! Maybe if I toss and turn enough I will get the dust to come out my ears or something? I’m pretty sure that does not work.

Renewing the mind is something I used to struggle with because in order to do it, I have to DO something! I don’t think I’m particularly lazy but it is so easy to talk myself out of doing something when I think there is a more appealing option in front of me. It takes work and in order for the renewal to be effective. It’s all about conditioning just like training to work out or run a marathon.

Romans 12:12

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

1 Corinthians 9:24

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

Renewing the mind with God’s word has its definite  rewards, like:

  1. We shall know, not only His perfect will, but His PLEASING will
  2. We can use God’s ways to test our decisions and direction
  3. We become conditioned according to our continual practice of renewal
  4. We are counted as diligent by God.
  5. We can be blessed by obtaining “the prize”! Whatever God’s blessing is for our actions, we have His promise for it! Complete guarantee!

If you don’t have a ritual of spending time in God’s word, you won’t know or understand God’s ways and His desires for your life. Renewing of the mind by the word of God also gives healing to the heart and a positive direction to life. Learning to know and trust God is a huge blessing in life. When you get to understand the nature of the King who laid down His life for you, there is no stopping you in life. His love is overwhelming and I promise you will be captivated by Him in ways you never expected!

Dear Jesus, give me the diligence to stay focused on renewing my mind by Your word daily. I want a blessed life. I realize I must work at renewing my mind. I know You are pleased with me and will guide my way as I draw closer to You! Thank You for the faithfulness of Your word and Your Holy Spirit, amen!

God bless you in the coming New Year and your renewal process!
