God as Source and Home

Dr. Jenine Marie of Life Lessons by Jenine Marie

There were days in the past that I struggled so hard to grow, survive, and live. Every angle I chose, every road I took seemed to be the hardest ever. You see, I had five children to care for all on my own. I struggled every day of my life. Yes, there were days I cried my brains out. Then there were also days of great victory and support. Support always came from God as my Source. Whenever I feel I am struggling the most, I have forgotten who my Source is.

Life can always be more comfortable. Some things fly out of control, but we can find that control again. The things we can control are our attitudes, our faith, our choices, our mindset, and our ultimate decisions. We can choose faith over fear. We can choose to be gracious over ungrateful. We can choose to have a God mindset over an ego mindset. Our decisions can be wise ones, or we can select unwisely and must take the consequences.

Any time I felt weakness, it was not because I cried or felt down. Fault always has come from forgetting who I am and Who lives in me. Weakness always comes from disconnecting from the One with whom I have always belonged.  God is the Source of all my inheritance, my joy, my victory, and my convictions.

These have always been my convictions. Do I slip up sometimes? Yes! I slip up a lot, but I also chose that God would be my compass and sealed this eternal choice. With God as a compass, there is no going back. God will always arrange life so that I will drive my way home, no matter what. A home is a place of comfort, hope, and security. When we lose “home,”; we lose our comfort, hope, and safety.

My hope for you today is to find “home” and to determine your Source. Seal yourself in permanent betrothal with the One who always knows you best and will never let you down.

After the Storm: Healing from the Effects of Grief and Loss

We have all been recently affected by a global pandemic that just about brought our world to a standstill. My heart goes out to all of those who have suffered losses during the spread of COVID-19. I know the grief and the feeling of loss. It is not easy. The news media only barely touch upon that part of what is happening because of this virus. Every single time I see the death toll go up; I think of my own challenges with grieving the loss of loved ones along my journey. Recovering is not an overnight thing. It takes time and understanding.

Our world has gone mostly virtual suddenly and seemingly overnight. Thank goodness we have the internet! What used to merely be social media is now a necessity in order to function in this world. With all of this said, I cling to hope. Hope is an extraordinarily strong motivator. My advice is to walk daily and take one step at a time but always have hope for a better day to come. They WILL come!

Biblically speaking, “hope deferred makes the heart sick.” This means without hope we become sick. The last thing we need is to become more ill. Heart sickness will kill the soul even faster than a virus will kill the body. Therefore, it is so important to keep our hearts light and shine as much light as we can for others as well. We are ONE world and together we will overcome what has been presented to us.

If not anything else, the pandemic has brought us all together in ways we never have experienced before. It has made heroes out of medical personnel and healers out of those who normally would not have ever stepped up to the plate. I believe virtually we can all be healers as well. It is why this platform is so important right now. We NEED to talk about it all. We need to vent, we need to cry, and we need to heal ourselves back into hope.

I might not know you, but I love you. Its God-given to love those we do not know. God loves this world and God will help us heal and heal the world we live in. Don’t we appreciate it so much more now? I know it is hard when we have lost loved ones. It is a tough road to walk. Will you let me be a part of your healing journey? I would be honored to walk with you through it all.

Grand Children are Our Rewards

I always knew there would come a time when one of my children, or all of them, would have kids. I remember thinking how that would make me a grandmother! I don’t know why we always associate being a grandparent as being old. We are not older, we are wiser. It’s just like having lines appear on our faces; those crinkles that pop up almost suddenly. They don’t mean we are old. They just mean we have had expression. We have lived, laughed, been surprised and even cried. They become etched upon our faces to remind us of the moments we enjoyed and those we overcame.

In the same way, grandchildren remind us of a job well done. We are blessed! God says that birthing children is an inheritance. That inheritance goes onward to become even more “grand” as the years go by. I saw both of my granddaughters as soon as they were born. Alexsys, my first, was with me the first year of her life during the day while her mama went back to work. I got to see all of her firsts. Her first word, step, smile, and everything in between. When my second granddaughter, Iryss, was born, I slept in the car in the hospital parking lot and part of the time on the couch near the waiting room.

I will never forget their eyes the first time I saw them and they seemed to look at me. It’s instant love just like when all of my kids were born. These are the ones who move onward, passing down the family inheritance; good and not so good. I dream sometimes about what they might be in the future. My hope for them is that God will always bless them with the very best of everything. Nope, they don’t make me older, they make me hope filled. I know they will discover new things in this world when my time here is over.

I know, one day I will watch from another form, with hopes, dreams, and prayers, just like I do now. They are a legacy that love lives on way after we leave this earthly existence. They are our spiritual wonders.

Today, my hope and prayers are for your grandchildren! May they inherit the very best parts of you and all that you are!

Here Is Your Weekly Wisdom!

WeeklyWisdomLogo

You will never completely arrive. Life is a learning process. It’s a transformation that will continue through all of your life. Give yourself a break.

This is a message to be easy on yourself. Sometimes we get so caught up on judging ourselves and every move we make.  If you make a mistake, acknowledge it, and then move forward and do it better next time. Give yourself grace. God does! Give to yourself everything God desires for you. Compassion, forgiveness, unconditional love, and empathy.

Today, and always, you are a warrior. You have been born into this world innocent and have taken on the mess this world has dealt you. As people, we tend to suck in everything thrown at us and then spend so much time working on healing it. Be brave enough to heal a little bit every day. Your life matters. You matter. There is no place you go where grace does not follow you. You can not release the tight hold God has on you and for you. There is no way to dump His image within you. You might as well accept that you are a miracle and worthy of healing, hope, and happiness!

Are You Depressed About the Coming Holidays?

downloadWe are approaching that time of year where the festive commercials come on with the picture of families all together before tables filled with food, laughter, and smiles. We are also entering the Christmas zone when we all will face the bombarding of advertisements tempting us to buy certain gifts for family members and the latest greatest toys available to intrigue our children.

I remember those days when I was younger. The anticipation of food, gifts, tree lights, and new warm slippers. It all paints a pretty picture. Of course this year things are a bit different because a lot of us have been warned that to say “Merry Christmas” violates some human rights. I’m pretty sure that is not true, but for some reason that is what part of our country wants to present this year. I imagine the commercials will take on a new feel as “Happy Holidays” will take over. Unfortunately this will not change much about the holy celebrations that are about to take place. The very word “holiday” means “holy day”.

I want to get to my point before I get off on a tangent about the renaming of Christmas! As a look back upon our annual celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus, there have been amazing times and those which were filled with grief and depression. For instance, the first Christmas after my son went to heaven was one I wish I could have avoided. For many, the upcoming holidays are just reminders of what we are missing instead of what we have. I would love to turn it around for you all and tell you to focus on what you are grateful for. While this is the best practice, I also know there are seasons when we are grateful but there are also circumstances when there can be deep sadness.

Not every elderly person has family around. Not every child looks forward to gifts with a gleam in their eyes. Some service men and women are far away from their loved ones and would give anything for just the gift of a hug this season. Being far from loved ones is  a hard thing to face. Along with the holy part of the holidays we turn our faces to God, the one who made us and keeps us through every day of every year. In the face of sadness, depression, loneliness, and separation, we are confronted with a love that comes from heaven that begs to heal us. There are some pains that all the alcohol, pills, well wishes, far away phone calls, and sparkling gifts will not heal or even appease.

Before I get you into a downer here, I have to say this is hard enough to write let alone know it will come across negative, but it is truth. Not everyone will have a “Happy New Year” celebration. For those who are hurting, its almost like a triple cocktail of unwanted reminders that something is just not right this season. If this is YOU, then my heart reaches for you. I’ve been there, I know that achy feeling deep inside that won’t stop nagging that something hurts beyond anyone’s control. If this is YOU, God’s heart also reaches for you. He understands the feelings of loss and the grief that comes from being alone, lost, angry, hurt, rejected, less than feeling blessed.

I am awake very early in the morning writing this, so I know that God is already concerned for you. His heart is with you and He wants to ease your distress with the comfort of His Holy Spirit. He is called “the comforter” and He completely understands. Remember that baby Jesus was born in a barn, was different than everyone around Him, was scorned by His own family members, was taunted by religious law leaders, was hated by those who feared what He might change, was misrepresented by those who thought He was here to start a revolution, was betrayed by one He dearly loved, was murdered by those who misunderstood Him. Still today, this world begs to push Him away; to keep Him even out of the celebration of His own birth. Maybe they can’t find his birth certificate. (Ok, that one was bad, lol).

If the upcoming holy days are already beginning to tax your heart, I want you to know you are not alone. Not only is Jesus with you, and all, but there are those who care about your difficult struggle during a time that should be a blessed celebration with those we love. Be assured that Jesus has been near you all year long and will remain through any of your days. He will never forsake you and He completely understands your pain and depressive moments.

If you are reading this and already know that you are one who will be needing someone to talk to, please know you have someone you can put a voice to. You can call my toll free number and please leave a message for a call back for a talk and prayer session if there is no immediate answer. I WILL get back to you. Depression and sadness should not have to happen during the holidays, but it is NORMAL when it does. We are human; all of us.

For talk/prayer call 800-421-1765. You don’t even have to wait for the holidays to come. You can start now if you need to. Life is HARD but it is so much harder when faced alone  feeling no one understands. I can tell you this though. It will be ok. Whatever it is you face might be hurtful, might cause depression, might feel lonely, but it will be ok. This too shall pass. I admire your strength, your tenacity, your ability to be resilient, and I honor your pain for whatever reason it might be haunting you.

Don’t forget to call. It WILL help. I love you to heaven and back! (Something I tell my children).
